2011 Quilt Show

"Symbols of Love and Life~A Wedding Quilt
Viewers Choice 1st Place
Winner Dee Van Driel
Starting with a collection of over 60 red and brown fabrics in 2007, to a class (Mock Pineapple) by Judy Hasheider in 2008, to a wedding in 2009, Dee developed plans and themes that become "Symbols of Love and Life ~ A Wedding Quilt."  Judy's class featured the pieced pinapple blocks, but because Dee appliques, she designed and additional border to showcase her talents.  The appliques symbols she chose are cardinals, butterflies, bunnies, love birds, hearts, hands and pineapples.  All meaningful images to her oldest son, his wife for their marriage and life.  Confronted with nemerous tecnical and material challenges, Dee persevered to complete the quilt in 2011.  "Symbols" were layered with a wool batting and quilted by Dee on her domestic sewing machine.  Juried into Quilt Expo 2011 (Madison, WI) and awarded a 2nd place ribbon.  Juried into American Quilter's Society Show (Des Moines, IA) in 2011.
